Welcome to Year 4D

This half term we will be asking the question: Who Was Who:the Shang Dynasty?
As Historians we will research the Shang ynasty of China. We will research what life was like for people during the Dynasty and we will plot key areas on a map. We will explain Shang Dynasty hierarchy and how archaeologists know about the civilisation. We will explore the mystery behind Chinese myths and explain why Fu Hao was so important. We will also take part the tasting of ancient Chinese food to help us feel closer to the culture.
As Scientists we will be looking at sound. We will study how vibrations create sounds and how we can change the pitch of them. We will also create instruments to help us understand how sound is made and how it travels. We will investigate how to create different sounds.
As Designers we will research Chinese culture and design our own lanterns and create them using a range of materials. We will also create our own Chinese dragons and use clay to make Chinese style pots.
As Mathematicians we will be learning about fractions, decimals and division, position and direction, area and multiplication.
In English we will be writing stories, instructions and poetry.
As learners with high aspirations we will strive to do our best and gain an understanding of different disasters in different countries. During certain lessons we will work as a team and try to come up with solutions for any problems which we have been given.
We will respect the opinions of others during all lessons as well as working effectively within a team when necessary. We will respect how people feel and hard times that they have experienced because of natural disasters.
British value: This half term we are thinking about tolerance in all aspects of our learning.
We will also be answering these questions:
1. When and where was the Shang Dynasty?
2. Who was who in Shang hierarchy?
3. What was Shang pottery used for?
4. What were the Shang religions and beliefs?
5. Who was Fu Hao?
6. How was food produced?
Homework and spellings will be given on Friday. Homework MUST be back in by Wednesday and spellings will be tested on the following Friday. We will also revise times tables so encourage your child to practise as much as possible.
Please ensure that your child brings in their reading book everyday and make sure
they bring in their PE kit on Mondays and take it home every Friday to be washed. WE WILL HAVE SWIMMING ON WEDNESDAY EACH WEEK AND FOREST SCHOOL ON THURSDAY.
