Welcome to Year 4D

This half term we will be asking the question: 'Are you as rotten as a Roman?'

As Historians we will research Roman lives and plot significant events on a timeline.We will learn the story of Boudicca and identify similarities and differences between Romans and Celts.  As well as identifying reasons why Romans were successful invaders we will learn about the lives of Roman soldiers.  We will visit a Chester Amphitheatre and learn what Romans did for entertainment.

As Scientists we will we will research how the human body works. We will look at functions of organs in the digestive system.  We will also find out about the different types of teeth and skeleton.  We will find out about carnivores and herbivores.

As Designers we will taste and explore Roman foods and compare them to things that we eat today.  We will study food that rich and poor Romans used to eat.

As Artists we will be studying and making our own mosaics.

As Mathematicians we will use our skills to understand place value, rounding, addition, subtraction, 2D shapes and time.

As learners of English we will be writing narratives, poems and explanations.

As learners with high aspirations we will strive to do our best and gain an  understanding of different times in history. During certain lessons we will work as a team and try to come up with solutions for any problems which we have been given. 

We will respect the opinions of others during all lessons as well as working effectively within a team when necessary. We will respect how people felt and what they experienced during difficult times in history. 

British value: This half term we are thinking about tolerance in all aspects of our learning.

 

We will also be answering these questions:

 

1. Who were the Romans and where did they come from?

2. How did the Celtic way of life differ from that of the Romans?

3. Who was Boudicca?

4.Why were the Romans so keen to take a bath?

5. What did the Romans eat?

6. What did the Romans do for entertainment?

7.What was day-to-day life like?

 

 

Homework and spellings will be given on Friday. Homework MUST be back in by Wednesday and spellings will be tested on the following Friday. We will also revise times tables so encourage your child to practise as much as possible.

 

Please ensure that your child brings in their reading book everyday and make sure
 they bring in their PE kit on Mondays and take it home every Friday to be washed. WE WILL HAVE SWIMMING ON WEDNESDAY EACH WEEK AND FOREST SCHOOL ON THURSDAY.
