Our visit to Chester
We visited Chester to explore the Roman heritage of the city. Our visit began in the dark hold of a Roman Galley.
We were able to experience the sights, sounds and smells of Roman Britain. We viewed genuine Roman, Saxon and Medieval remains buried beneath Chester. There was a superb collection of artefacts from both Chester and the wider Roman Empire. In the 'hands-on' room we did a variety of historically themed activities such as trying on Roman Armour.
We followed a Roman Soldier armed with battle shields. As new recruits we formed a testudo, visited the amphitheatre and prepared for battle.
