Curriculum

At Crosslee Primary School we aim to provide a curriculum that is engaging, meaningful and carefully designed to meet the needs of every child. We are committed to nurturing the whole child, celebrating individual strengths and encouraging a lifelong love of learning. Every child experiences opportunities that are challenging, inspiring and relevant across all areas of the curriculum.

Our curriculum is guided by our mission statement, “Reach for the Stars”, and our core values of being Ready, Respectful and Safe. We believe education should prepare children for a world that is constantly evolving, where technology, careers and experiences are continually changing. We aim to equip children not only with the knowledge and skills they need today but also with adaptability, resilience and problem-solving abilities that will support them throughout their lives.

The curriculum at Crosslee Primary School is based on the National Curriculum for England, giving all children access to a broad and balanced education. While we value English, Mathematics and Science, we also prioritise the Arts, History, Geography, Music, Languages, Technology, Computing, Religious Education and the development of British values. PSHE is taught as a dedicated subject to help children become thoughtful, emotionally aware and confident learners who can reflect, ask questions and think critically.

At Crosslee Primary School, our curriculum design is deeply rooted in cognitive science research. We identify the essential knowledge that every child should master and carefully sequence learning within and across subjects and year groups. New knowledge builds on what children already know, helping them form strong connections and retain learning in long-term memory. We carefully consider the spacing of learning to support recall and use evidence-based strategies to maximise understanding and retention. This approach ensures that all children can progress confidently and securely, building skills and knowledge that will support them now and in the future.

Our curriculum is also designed with our local community and context in mind, helping children see the relevance of their learning and make meaningful connections between school and life beyond the classroom. By fostering curiosity, confidence and a sense of responsibility, we inspire every child to Reach for the Stars.
