Crosslee Behaviour Curriculum

Our Behaviour Curriculum sits alongside the Jigsaw PSHE programme, which supports the social, emotional and mental development of all children. The Jigsaw scheme provides a structured framework for exploring six competencies, which we integrate within our behaviour teaching – including self-awareness, self-management and responsible decision-making. Each class begins the year by co-constructing a Class Charter, rooted in the rights and responsibilities promoted through Jigsaw. These charters reflect both our behaviour expectations and Jigsaw’s commitment to respectful and inclusive relationships. Our school-wide routines — from lining up and listening to recognising and regulating emotions — provide the practical foundation for these charters, helping to turn shared values into daily actions. This consistency of language and practice ensures that all pupils, across all year groups, understand what is expected and how to achieve it.

At Crosslee Primary we develop children’s character and learning behaviours through our behaviour curriculum In order to build character, we define the behaviours and habits that we expect students to demonstrate. We want to support our pupils to grow into adults who are polite, respectful, grateful and who always consider others. We believe that as pupils practise these behaviours, over time they become automatic routines that positively shape how they feel about themselves and how other people perceive them.

Ellis and Todd (2018)

We believe that in order to develop their behaviour children need to have an understanding of the social, emotional and cognitive parts of their brain. Within this we believe there are 6  CASEL SEL Competencies (SEL guidance report, EEF).

  • Self-awareness
  • Self management
  • Social awareness
  • Relationship skills
  • Responsible decision making

Within each core competency there are associated skills. At Crosslee, we have identified 7 skills that are the focus of our behaviour curriculum.
