Curriculum at Crosslee

At Crosslee Primary School, our curriculum is ambitious, knowledge‑rich and designed to inspire a life‑long love of learning, ensuring that all pupils develop a deep understanding of our changing world and grow into responsible, resilient global citizens. Rooted in The Crosslee Way, our curriculum is carefully planned and sequenced so that “the knowledge and skills are continuously developed and built upon”, enabling children to make meaningful connections across subjects and retain essential knowledge over time. We place high value on explicitly teaching vocabulary, selecting essential knowledge that empower pupils to articulate their thinking with confidence and we embed retrieval practice throughout teaching to strengthen long‑term memory. Learning behaviours are explicitly taught so that pupils are ready, respectful and safe, showing perseverance, resilience and the ability to regulate and co‑regulate as they learn. Our approach to teaching is grounded in evidence‑based practice, using the Seven‑Step Model to structure learning effectively and ensure clarity, modelling and guided practice for all pupils. We are committed to inclusive, high‑quality teaching where adaptations are made thoughtfully through small‑step instruction and scaffolding, ensuring every child can access and succeed within a rich, broad and balanced curriculum. Through high‑quality questioning, feedback‑rich classrooms and opportunities for structured reflection, we support pupils to think deeply, develop independence and understand how to move their learning forward. Our curriculum reflects both the National Curriculum and the needs of our community, ensuring that learning is relevant, meaningful and prepares children not only for the world as it is now, but for the world they will shape in the future.

Our Curriculum documentation consists of:

Knowledge Overviews showing essential knowledge/ overviews.
